The Woodville Theatre, Gravesham Borough Council: Advertising Posters
We recently had the exciting opportunity to design a poster for The Woodville Theatre’s latest exhibition, Once Upon A Time: The Magic of Pantomime. This exhibition celebrates the timeless appeal of pantomime classics, bringing together beloved stories like Cinderella and Peter Pan. Our task was to craft a visual that not only captured the enchantment of these tales but also created an immersive experience that would resonate with both children and adults alike.

To bring the magic of pantomime to life, we utilised powerful AI tools that allowed us to create individual elements which we could them seamlessly blend into a cohesive and imaginative scene. From the glass slipper of Cinderella to Jack's Beanstalk plunging high into the sky, every detail was thoughtfully considered to evoke a sense of wonder and storytelling, taking a similar stylistic approach to the illustrations of classic children's books.
The AI tools enabled us to experiment with different artistic styles and compositions, which gave us the creative freedom to merge classic fairy tale elements into one captivating image. By blending iconic symbols from each pantomime with a rich colour palette and dynamic lighting, the final design became a visual representation of the magical, larger-than-life world of pantomime.
This poster needed to work across multiple formats, from large portrait-style billboards to smaller A5 printed flyers. Designing for such varied sizes presented a challenge: we had to ensure that the poster’s intricate details would be just as impactful on a large scale as they were on a smaller flyer.
The solution lay in a bold yet simple layout, with the central imagery – a fantastical, glowing scene of pantomime magic – taking centre stage. The headline, Once Upon A Time: The Magic of Pantomime, was set in a whimsical typeface, while secondary information about the exhibition was carefully placed to ensure readability across all formats.
By considering both large-scale billboards and small-format flyers in the design process, we made sure that the poster remained visually strong and engaging no matter where it was displayed.
The use of AI in this design allowed us to blend traditional storytelling elements with modern design techniques. While the imagery itself was rooted in classic tales, the digital tools enabled us to push the boundaries of creativity. We could seamlessly merge layers of imagery, lighting, and texture to create a scene that felt both nostalgic and fresh, without the need for sourcing props and setting up large studio spaces to photograph these elements.
This blending of classic and modern methods is not only reflective of the exhibition’s theme but also highlights the flexibility and innovation that AI tools can bring to graphic design projects like this. It allowed us to craft a visual that is as enchanting as the pantomimes themselves.
The final result is a poster that encapsulates the heart of pantomime. Whether seen on a towering billboard or a pocket-sized flyer, the design immediately draws viewers into the magic and wonder of these timeless tales.
